Uruguay Manufacturing Output Rebounds Sharply
Manufacturing production in Uruguay surged 9.3 percent year-on-year in August of 2022, rebounding from a 1 percent decrease in the previous month. The largest positive contribution came from the production of foods (11.4 percent), followed by the production of automobiles (156.5 percent), and chemicals products (20.6 percent). On the other hand, main negative contributions came from pharmaceutical products (-18.4 percent) and paper and paper products (-4.1 percent). Considering the first eight months of 2022, manufacturing production expanded by 6.6 percent.
Uruguay Manufacturing Production Contracts
Manufacturing production in Uruguay fell by 1 percent year-on-year in July of 2022, swinging from the 3.6 percent increase in the previous month to mark the first contraction in manufacturing output since February 2021 and the sharpest since November 2020. Output fell for pharmaceutical products (-26.1 percent), metallic goods (-32.4 percent), paper and paper products (-2.8 percent) and food (-1.6 percent). Considering the first seven months of 2022, manufacturing production expanded by 6.2 percent.
Uruguay Industrial Output Growth at 6-Month High
Manufacturing production in Uruguay rose by 12 percent year-on-year in May of 2022, marking the steepest increase since November of 2021 and picking up from the 3.9 percent rise in the prior month. Production grew for meat (14.9 percent with a contribution of 4.9 percentage points to the overall increase), automobiles (131.9 percent with a contribution of 2.6 percentage points), and paper and paper products (10.4 percent with a contribution of 1.1 percentage points). Considering the first five months of 2022, industrial production rose by 8.5 percent compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
