UK Factory Output Rises for 1st Time in 2 Years
Manufacturing production in the UK jumped 4.8 percent year-on-year in March of 2021, the first gain since March of 2019 and the biggest since April of 2014 as the country started to ease coronavirus lockdown restrictions from March. Compared to February 2021, factory output went up 2.1 percent driven by higher output in 10 of the 13 manufacturing subsectors, the largest being a rise of 8.3% in manufacturing of machinery and equipment.

Factory activity in the UK was down 4.2 percent year-on-year in February of 2021, the last month of "normal" trading conditions prior to the coronavirus pandemic. It follows a 5 percent drop in January. On a monthly basis, industrial output jumped 1.3 percent, driven by higher output in 7 of the 13 manufacturing subsectors, the largest being a rise of 9 percent in manufacturing of computer, electronic and optical products.

British Manufacturing Output Slumps in January
Manufacturing production in th UK fell 5.2 percent year-on-year in January of 2021, the 22nd decline in a row and much worse than forecatst of a 3.6 percent fall. On a monthly basis, factory output sank 2.3 percent, compared to forecasts of a 0.8 percent fall, mainly due to a drop in transport equipment. Manufacturing was 5.7 percent below its level in February of 2020.
