UK car production jumped 34% to 49,901 units in August 2022 from a year ago, gaining for the fourth straight month, although that compared to a weak period last year and volumes remained significantly lower from pre-pandemic levels. Production for the UK market surged 33.1% in YoY in August to 10,709 units,while the number of cars built for export gained 34.2% to 39,192 units. Battery electric, plug-in hybrid and hybrid vehicle production also grew, accounting for about a third of all cars made in the UK in August. Meanwhile, SMMT flagged staggering energy costs as the single biggest concern among British car manufacturers.
