Turkey Tourist Arrivals Rise for 1st Time in Over a Year
The number of foreigners visiting Turkey rose 26.1 percent year-on-year to 905,323 people in March of 2021. It was the first increase in tourist arrivals since February of 2020. Arrivals went up mainly from Iran (3523 percent), Russia (180 percent) and Ukraine (126 percent). Last year, foreign tourist arrivals slumped 68 percent to 718,097.

The number of foreigners visiting Turkey plunged 67.4 percent year-on-year to 699.330 in December of 2020, amid renewed travel restrictions to contain the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Arrivals decreased mainly from Germany (-75.4 percent), Iran (-75.4 percent), Iraq (-60.7 percent), Bulgaria (-55.3 percent) and Russia (-30.8 percent). Considering the full year of 2020, tourist arrivals slumped 72 percent to 12.734 million.
