Turkish Tourism Revenues Plummet 40.2% in Q1
Turkey's tourism revenues slipped 40.2% from a year earlier to USD 2.45 billion in the first quarter of 2021, of which 68.8% was obtained from foreign visitors and 31.2% was obtained from citizens resident abroad. It was the lowest figure for a first quarter period since 2010, as the ongoing pandemic crisis continued to hit the country's key sector. Apart from health expenditure, all expenditure types decreased compared to the same quarter of the previous year. The number of departing visitors decreased by 53.9% to 2.6 million. Tourism expenditure, which is the expenditure of the Turkish citizens resident in Turkey and visited abroad, fell 70.2%.

Turkish Tourism Revenues Plunge 50.4% in Q4
Turkey's tourism revenues slumped 50.4 percent from a year earlier to USD 3.914 billion in the fourth quarter of 2020, of which 74.9 percent was obtained from foreign visitors and 25.1 percent was obtained from citizens resident abroad. All expenditure types decreased compared to same quarter of the previous year. Package tour expenditure (share of Turkey) declined by 72.2 percent, tour services expenditure decreased by 68.4 percent and sports, education, culture expenditure decreased by 67.3 percent. Considering 2020 full year, tourism revenues plunged by 65.1 percent from a year earlier to USD 12.96 billion.

Turkish Tourism Revenues Slump in Q3
Turkey's tourism revenues tumbled 71.2 percent from a year earlier to USD 4.044 billion in the third quarter of 2020, of which 71.6 percent was obtained from foreign visitors and 28.4 percent was obtained from citizens resident abroad. All expenditure types decreased compared to same quarter of the previous year. Sports, education, culture expenditure decreased by 82.6 percent, tour services expenditure decreased by 78.8 percent and package tour expenditure (share of Turkey) decreased by 77.2 percent. The Turkstat did not publish data for the second quarter of the year, saying the survey could not be conducted at border gates due to the coronavirus pandemic.
