Thailand Export Growth Below Estimates
Exports from Thailand increased by 8.93 percent year-on-year to USD 21.98 billion in August of 2021 billion, less than market expectations of 13.5 percent growth and after a 20.27 percent jump a month earlier, as foreign demand moderated following rising cases of the Delta strain COVID-19 globally.
Thailand Exports Rise More than Expected in July
Exports from Thailand increased by 20.27 percent year-on-year in July 2021 billion to USD 22.65 billion, above market expectations of 19.7 percent growth and after a 43.82 percent jump a month earlier, amid strong foreign demand as more countries reopened further their economies. Sales mainly grew for vehicles, auto parts, and computers and components. Among major trading partners, shipments expanded to the US (22%), China (41%), Japan (23%), and the EU (21%). Considering the first seven months of the year, shipments gained 16.2% from the same period of 2020.
Thailand Exports Rise the Most in 11 Years
Exports from Thailand jumped 43.82 percent year-on-year to USD 23.70 billion in June 2021, beating above market expectations of a 38.98 percent growth and after a 41.59 percent gain a month earlier. This was the fastest rise in outbound shipments in eleven years, amid strengthening foreign demand in the wake of coronavirus infections. Sales of vehicle and auto parts jumped 78.5% yoy, while those of computers and parts gained 21.6%. Exports rose to the US (41%), China (42%), Japan (32%), and the EU (47%). In the first half of the year, shipments grew by 15.53% from the same period of 2020.

Thailand is an export oriented economy with exports accounting for around 65 percent of the GDP. The country mainly exports manufactured goods (86 percent of total shipments) with electronics (14 percent, vehicles (13 percent), machinery and equipment (7.5 percent) and foodstuffs (7.5 percent) being the most important. Agricultural goods, mainly rice and rubber, account for 8 percent of total shipments. Major export partners are China (12 percent), Japan (10 percent), the United States (10 percent) and the European Union (9.5 percent). Others include: Malaysia, Australia and Singapore.
