Exports from Thailand expanded by 13.09 percent year-on-year to USD 21.43 billion in April 2021, compared with market consensus of a 9.6 percent growth and after an 8.37 percent gain a month earlier. This was the fastest rise in outbound shipments in three years, amid strengthening foreign demand in the wake of coronavirus infections. Sales were higher for cars and auto parts, rubber, computers, and oil. Shipments to China, Thailand's top market, jumped by 21.9 percent year on year, while those to the US grew by 9 percent and those to the EU surged 52.5 percent. Considering the first four months of the year, exports rose 4.78 percent from the same period of 2020. The government expects outbound shipments to increase by 4 percent this year, supported by a recovery in foreign demand.
