Swedish Trade Surplus Widens in May
Sweden's trade surplus widened to SEK 5.1 billion in May 2021 from SEK 1.1 billion in the corresponding month last year. Exports increased 30 percent from a year earlier to SEK 133.2 billion and imports rose 27 percent to SEK 128.1 billion, due to a low base year and a recovery in global demand. The number of weekdays in May 2021 was one more compared with May 2020. Trade in goods with countries outside the EU resulted in a surplus of SEK 19.8 billion, while EU trade resulted in a deficit of SEK 14.7 billion.

Sweden Trade Surplus Narrows Sharply in April
Sweden's trade surplus narrowed to SEK 1.8 billion in April of 2021 from SEK 5.4 billion in the corresponding month of the previous year. Imports jumped 28 percent from a year earlier to SEK 129 billion while exports advanced a slower 23 percent to SEK 130.8 billion. The double-digit growth rates were in part due to the impact of the pandemic in foreign trade last year. The number of weekdays in April 2021 was the same as in April 2020. Trade in goods with countries outside the EU resulted in a surplus of SEK 20.4 billion, while EU trade resulted in a deficit of SEK 18.6 billion.

Sweden's trade surplus shrank to SEK 4.1 billion in March of 2021 from SEK 5.6 billion in the corresponding month of the previous year. Imports advanced at a faster 11 percent from a year earlier to SEK 139.8 billion while exports surged 10 percent to SEK 143.9 billion while.
