The central bank of Paraguay unanimously decided to maintain the monetary policy interest at 8.50% in its October 2022 meeting. The move marked the end of a fourteen consecutive rate hike streak by the central bank, citing falling commodity prices in recent months and rising yields in major economies. The latest CPI data pointed to a 9.3% annual inflation rate, the slowest in six months, as food prices continued to ease off their peak in April. At the regional level, short-term activity indicators have continued to post positive year-on-year rates as of August. With this, the economic growth forecasts were adjusted upwards for 2022, while for 2023, they were revised downwards.
