Macau Unemployment Rate Remains Unchanged
The unemployment rate in Macau stood at an 11-year high of 3.0 percent in the March to May period of 2021, the same as in the previous three-month period. The number of unemployed declined by 100 to 11,900 and the employed population fell by 3,800 to 378,700 mostly construction and gaming & junket activities . The labor force participation rate decreased to 68.9 percent from 69.6 in the previous three-month period.

The unemployment rate in Macau inched up to 3.0 percent in the February to April 2021 period, from 2.9 percent in the previous three-month period, amid the coronavirus pandemic. It was the highest jobless rate since the February to April 2010 period, as the number of unemployed increased by 400 to 12,000 and the employed population shrank by 2,400 to 382,500 mostly in wholesale & retail trade, construction, and hotels & similar activities. The labor force participation rate decreased to 69.6 percent from 69.9 in the previous three-month period.
