The Macau Monetary Authority raised its base rate by 50 basis points to 4.75 percent on December,15th 2022, the seventh rate hike this year, reaching the highest level since December 2007. The move tracked a hike by the same margin in the US Federal Reserve funds rate and followed a similar move by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority as the territory is under the linked exchange rate system with Asia's financial hub. The rate hike came amid Macau, a Chinese special administrative region, entering the second phase of relaxed Covid-19 restrictions.
