Jordan Jobless Rate Jumps to Highest on Record
The unemployment rate in Jordan surged to 24.7 percent in the fourth quarter of 2020 from 19 percent in the same period of the previous year, amid the severe impact caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. This was the highest jobless rate since the series began in 2005, as the jobless rate for both men (22.6 percent vs 17.7 percent in Q4 2019) and women (32.8 percent vs 24.1 percent) increased.
Jordan Jobless Rate Hits Record High of 23%
The unemployment rate in Jordan increased to 23 percent in the second quarter of 2020 from 19.2 percent a year earlier. It is the highest jobless rate since at least 2005. The unemployment rate rose for both males (21.5 percent from 17.1 percent) and females (28.6 percent from 27.2 percent).
