The number of bankruptcy declarations among EU businesses increased by 26.8% on quarter in the last three months of 2022 and reached the highest levels since the start of the data collection in 2015. The number of bankruptcy declarations increased during all four quarters of 2022. Transportation and storage (+72.2%), accommodation and food services (+39.4%), and education, health and social activities (+29.5%) were the activities with the highest increases in the number of bankruptcies in the fourth quarter of 2022 compared with the previous quarter. The largest decreases were observed in Belgium (-17.6%), Romania (-17.3%) and Lithuania (-10.8%) while the biggest increases in the registrations of new businesses were observed in Ireland (+12.6%), Spain (+7.4%) and France (+2.8%)
