The HICP is compiled by Eurostat and the national statistical institutes in accordance with harmonised statistical methods. The ECB aims to maintain annual inflation rates as measured by the HICP below, but close to, 2% over the medium term.

Cyprus Harmonised Inflation Rate Softens for 5th Month
The annual harmonised inflation rate in Cyprus eased for the fifth straight month to 7.6 percent in December of 2022, from 8.1 percent in the previous month. Prices rose at a softer pace for food & non-alcoholic beverages (12.6 percent vs 15.1 percent), alcoholic beverages & tobacco (1.6 percent vs 2.2 percent), transport (8.3 percent vs 9.4 percent) and housing & utilities (17.2 percent vs 17.6 percent). On the other hand, price growth decreased for communication (-3.8 percent vs -2.5 percent), while cost advanced faster for restaurants & hotels (8.9 percent vs 8.2 percent), clothing & footwear (0.5 percent vs 0.2 percent) and health (0.9 percent vs 0.8 percent). On a monthly basis, HICP were down by 0.8 percent, following a 0.4 percent drop in the previous month.

Cyprus Harmonised Inflation Rate Softens for 3rd Month
The annual harmonised inflation rate in Cyprus eased for the third straight month to 8.6 percent in October of 2022, from 9 percent in the previous month. Prices slowed down mostly for housing & utilities (22.2 percent vs 28.7 percent), transport (11.9 percent vs 13.3 percent) and restaurants & hotels (9.1 percent vs 10.7 percent). On the other hand, price growth decreased for clothing & footwear (-0.2 percent vs 0 percent), while cost advanced faster for food and non-alcoholic beverages (12.6 percent vs 9.1 percent). On a monthly basis, HICP were up by 0.5 percent, following a 1 percent decline in the previous month.
