Colombia´s economy is highly dependent on exports of commodities. Oil and coal exports account for 59 percent of total shipments and gold for 5 percent. Yet, in recent years, other products such as chemicals, machinery and cut flowers have been gaining importance. Colombia´s main exports partners are: United States (36 percent of total exports), China (6 percent), Spain (5 percent) and Venezuela (4 percent). Colombian Exports Contract in December
Exports in Colombia fell by 1 percent from a year earlier to USD 4.5 billion in December of 2022, the first contraction since January 2021, after the 8.8 percent jump in the previous month. Shipments contracted for other sectors (-10.7 percent vs -13.4 percent in November), and manufacturing (-2.2 percent vs -6.1 percent). At the same time, exports slowed sharply for fuels and extractive industries (0.3 percent vs 21.1 percent). The main export partners were the US (25.3% of total shipments), followed by Panama (9.9%) and the Netherlands (4.1%). In the period January-December 2022, Colombian exports advanced 38% over a year to USD 57.11 billion.

Colombia Exports Rise the Least in 21-Months
Exports from Colombia rose 8.8 percent from a year earlier to USD 4.52 billion in November of 2022, the least since February 2020 and slowing from the 10.9 percent expansion in the previous month. Shipments contracted sharply for manufactured goods (-6.1 percent vs 7.3 percent in October), offsetting the increase in export growth for fuels and extracted goods (21.1 percent vs 15.5 percent) and agricultural products (1 percent vs 0.7 percent).
