Bulgaria’s industrial output rose 9.7 percent year-on-year in June of 2021, easing from a downwardly revised 16.4 percent jump in the previous month, reflecting smaller growth levels in all industrial activities. Main upward pressure still came from manufacturing activities (11.5 percent vs 18.7 percent), notably in manufacture of transport equipment (68.2 percent vs 12.8 percent) and of tobacco products (58.7 percent vs 29.0 percent). Finally, production advanced at a softer pace in mining & quarrying activities (7.0 percent vs 14.0 percent), and in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (0.9 percent vs 8.4 percent).

Bulgaria Industrial Output Growth Slows in May
Industrial production in Bulgaria advanced 16.5 percent year-on-year in May of 2021, following an upwardly revised 22.8 percent hike in the previous month which was the fastest expansion in Bulgaria’s record in industrial output. Upward pressure came from all sectors: manufacturing (18.7 percent vs 26.2 percent in April), underpinned by a surge in manufacturing of tobacco products (29.0 percent vs 2.0 percent); mining & quarrying (14.0 percent vs 4.6 percent) and utilities (9.0 percent vs 9.6 percent). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial output edged 1.2 percent lower, followed by a 0.4 fall in the prior month.

Bulgaria Industrial Ouput Rises at Historic Rate
Industrial production in Bulgaria surged 22.8 percent year-on-year in April of 2021, following an upwardly revised 7.2 percent jump in the previous month. It is the fastest expansion in industrial output in the series records, due to low base effects from last year when the coronavirus pandemic paused economic activity. Main upward pressure came mostly from manufacturing output (26.2 percent vs 9.3 percent in March), underpinned by a surge in manufacturing of motor vehicles, trailers, and semi-trailers (259.4 percent vs 23.4 percent). Other positive contributions came from utilities (14.5 percent vs -1.7 percent), and mining & quarrying (4.6 percent vs 4.9 percent). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial output edged 0.2 percent higher, slowing from an upwardly revised 4.8 percent gain in the month prior.
