The Eastern Coal segment refers to the Takitimu mine and Timaru coal handling and distribution center. It also has permits covering an area of over 10,000 hectares on the Buller coalfield. It also owns a coal distribution center in Timaru. The Takitimu mine is located near the town of Nightcaps. The Canterbury Coal mine is located over 70 kilometers west of Christchurch. It holds exploration permits at Ohai and Albury.
