Brazil New Vehicle Sales Rebound in May
Brazil auto sales rebounded by 7.7 percent month-over-month to 188.7 thousand units in May of 2021, following a 7.5 percent drop in the previous month. Registrations increased primarily for light vehicles (7.0 percent to 175.6 thousand), followed by trucks (17.5 percent to 11.5 thousand), and buses (36.9 percent to 1.6 thousand). Year-on-year, new vehicle registrations surged 203.4 percent, as the pandemic outbreak led to a plunge in car sales last year. Considering the first 5 months of 2021, sales jumped 31.9 percent from the same five-month period in 2020.

Brazil auto sales fell 7.5 percent month-over-month to 175.1 thousand units in April of 2021, following a 13.1 percent increase the previous month. Registrations went down by 7.5 percent to 164.2 thousand for light vehicles, trucks (-9.1 percent to 9.8 thousand), and for buses (-0.5 percent to 1.2 thousand). Meantime, exports of vehicles declined 7.9 percent to 33.9 thousand in April. Year-on-year, new vehicle registrations surged 214.2 percent, as the pandemic outbreak led to a plunge in car sales last year. Considering the first 4 months of 2021, sales jumped 14.5 percent, while auto exports went up 34.7 percent compared to the same period last year.

Brazil Auto Sales Rebound in March
Brazil auto sales jumped 13.1 percent month-over-month to 189.4 thousand units in March of 2021, following a 2.2 percent contraction the previous month. It is the highest reading since September of 2020, as registrations went up for light vehicles by 12.0 percent to 177.5 thousand; trucks 38.3 percent to 10.8 thousand; and buses by 5.2 percent to 1.2 thousand. Meantime, exports of vehicles went up 11.2 percent to 36.8 thousand in March. Year-on-year, new vehicle registrations advanced 15.7 percent while exports soared 19.5 percent. Considering the first 3 months of 2021, sales sank 5.4 percent, while auto exports went up 7.4 percent compared to the same period last year.
