Wholesale inflation in Austria eased to 10.2% year-on-year in February of 2023, the lowest reading since April of 2021, from 13.2% in the previous month. Costs of industrial chemicals had the biggest impact (51.3%), followed by solid fuels (41.3%), dairy products, eggs & edible oils and fats (31.1%) and live animals (26.7%). Further upward contributions came from sugar, chocolate, sugar confectionary and flat glass (each 25.9%), other food (24.2%), stationary (23.0%) as well as liquid and gaseous fuels and related products (21.1%). The prices of the 387 items contained in the basket of goods are surveyed at around 200 wholesale enterprises, which voluntarily provide approximately 1400 wholesale selling prices (exclusive VAT) every month.

Austria Wholesale Prices Continue to Ease in December
Wholesale inflation in Austria increased 14.4 percent year-on-year in December of 2022, easing from 16.5 percent in the previous month. Costs of industrial chemicals had the biggest impact (91.8 percent), followed by solid fuels (58.1 percent), other liquid & gaseous fuels and related products (55.2 percent), and dairy products, eggs & edible oils and fats (32.8 percent). Further upward contributions came from stationary (27.8 percent), live animals (26 percent), and motor spirit (25.4 percent). Compared to the previous month, the wholesale price index declined 2.3 percent, easing from 3 percent fall in the previous month.

Austria Wholesale Price Inflation Eases in November
Wholesale prices in Austria rose 16.5% year-on-year in November of 2022, sharply less than the 21.2% increase in the previous month. Still, the latest reading suggested inflation pressures remained high, mostly on the back of rising cost of industrial chemicals (101.8%), followed by solid fuels (67.5%) and other liquid & gaseous fuels & related products (63.6%). Further upward contributions came from continued high prices for motor spirit (29.9%), dairy products, eggs and edible oils & fats (28.8%), stationary (27.8%), and fertilizers & agrochemicals products (27.7%). On a monthly basis, the index declined 3%, after a 3.1% gain in the previous month.
