The South Korean won was changing hands above the $1,375 mark, a level not seen since April of 2009, as investors grew concerned about the performance of the export-driven economy amid mounting global recession fears. Weak export prospects, particularly those to China, the country's largest trade partner, are set to dent the South Korean economy. On top of that, high domestic inflation and tightening monetary policy all point to intensifying headwinds, making it difficult for the won to attract fresh buying. On the dollar side, persistent hawkish remarks from Federal Reserve officials have driven the world's reserve currency to levels not seen in over two decades.

Historically, the South Korean Won reached an all time high of 2388.36 in September of 2019. South Korean Won - data, forecasts, historical chart - was last updated on September of 2022.

The South Korean Won is expected to trade at 1379.25 by the end of this quarter, according to Trading Economics global macro models and analysts expectations. Looking forward, we estimate it to trade at 1435.06 in 12 months time.
