Mauritius Tourist Arrivals at Near Record Low Levels in May
There were 20 foreigners visiting Mauritius in May of 2020, following a record low of 10 in April, as travel stopped and flights were suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic. In May, 2 tourists came from the UK, 1 from Spain, 5 from India, 1 from the Philippines, 2 from Taiwan, 7 from New Zealand and 2 from Australia. In May, the length of stay in the country increased to 93.7 nights.
Mauritius Tourist Arrivals Down 3.5% in February
The number of foreigners visiting Mauritius fell 3.5 percent from a year ago to 111.560 thousand in February of 2020, amid the impact of the coronavirus outbreak. The main decreases in arrivals were recorded from the UK (-7.6 percent to 8.72 thousand), India (-11.9 percent to 5.48 thousand), South Africa (-2.2 percent to 5.41 thousand), Reunion Island (-0.8 percent to 4.62 thousand) and Italy (-1.2 percent to 2.94 thousand). In contrast, visitors rose mostly from France (6.2 percent to 34.2 thousand) and Germany (1.8 percent to 13.1 thousand).
Mauritius Tourist Arrivals Post Biggest Rise for January Month since 2016
The number of foreigners visiting Mauritius climbed 12.4 percent from a year ago to 137.419 thousand in January 2020, the largest increase for a January month since 2016 (14.3 percent). Main rises were registered in arrivals from France (15.1 percent to 31 thousand), Reunion Island (2.2 percent to 18 thousand), Germany (26.1 percent to 15 thousand), South Africa (28.7 percent to 10 thousand) and China (22 percent to 5 thousand). In contrast, arrivals fell mostly from the UK (-3.9 percent to 8 thousand).
Mauritius Tourist Arrivals Fall 3.8% YoY in December
The number of foreigners visiting Mauritius declined 3.8 percent from a year ago to 152.098 thousand in December 2019, mainly due to lower arrivals from South Africa (-18.2 percent to 19.2 thousand), the UK (-13.4 percent to 12.9 thousand) and Germany (-11.7 percent to 12.8 thousand). Conversely, main increases were recorded from France (6.7 percent to 35.1 thousand) and Reunion Island (5.9 percent to 15.5 thousand). Considering the first eleven months of the year, the number of foreigners went down 1.1 percent to 1,383.488 thousand.
