Main export partners were the UK (13.1 percent of sales), France (11.2 percent), South Africa (9.4 percent) and the US (9.3 percent).

Consumer prices in Mauritius rose 0.5 percent year-on-year in April 2019, following a 1.4 percent decline in the prior month. It is the highest increase in consumer prices since December. Prices rose for food & non-alcoholic beverages (0.2%); transport (0.8%); alcoholic beverages & tobacco (0.8%); furnishings (0.8%); restaurants & hotels (3.8%); miscellaneous goods & services (1.5%); clothing & footwear (3% ) and health (2.4%). In contrast, cost fell for housing & utilities (-0.3%); education (-2.7%) and communication (-3.3 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices were flat for the second month running.

The GDP in Mauritius expanded 4.1 percent year-on-year in the last quarter of 2018, following a 3.3 percent growth in the previous period. Manufacturing rebounded (2.3 percent compared to -1.2 percent) and faster increases were seen in financial and insurance activities (5.2 percent compared to 5.1 percent); real estate (3.1 percent compared to 2.6 percent); and construction (10.1 percent compared to 6.8 percent). Wholesale rose 3.7 percent, the same as in Q3 and agriculture went up 1.7 percent, also the same as in Q3. Considering full 2018, the economy expanded 3.8 percent, the same as in 2017.

The Central Bank of Mauritius decided unanimously to leave its key repo rate unchanged at 3.5 percent on May 17th 2019, citing persistently lower inflation expectations. Consumer prices rose 0.6 percent on an annual basis in April 2019, rebounding from a 1.4 percent decrease in the previous month and policymakers project inflation at 1.5 percent in 2019. The Bank also maintained its growth forecast of 3.9 percent for 2019 which would be broad-based, but noted uncertainties surrounding the global environment.

Mauritius Industrial Production at 2.20 percent  
Industrial production in Mauritius rose 2.2 percent year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2018, following an upwardly revised 0.5 percent decrease in the previous period. It is the strongest increase in industrial activity since Q4 2017. Output rebounded for manufacturing (2.3 percent vs -1.1 percent in Q3) and grew much master for water supply (6.6 percent vs 1.0 percent). Meanwhile, production slowed for mining & quarrying (2.6 percent vs 3.1 percent) and electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (1.1 percent vs 1.4 percent). On a quarterly basis, industrial output surged 16.3 percent, recovering from an upwardly revised 1 percent decline in the third quarter. In 2018, industrial production grew 0.8 percent, below 2.2 percent in 2017 and posting the smallest gain since 2014.
