The unemployment rate in Macau increased to 1.9 percent in December 2019-February 2020 from 1.7 percent in the previous three-month period, as the number of unemployed rose by 700 to 7,500. The unemployment rate in Macau stood at 1.7 percent in November 2019-January 2020, unchanged from the previous period. It remained the lowest jobless rate since April-June 2019 period, with total number of unemployed edging up by 100 to 6,800 while employment increasing 3,300 to 393,100. Job losses were seen in hotel & similar activities and construction, while gains were reported in gaming & junket activities; restaurant & similar activities, and wholesale & retail trade. Meantime, the labor force participation rate went up to 70.7 from 70.2 percent. In November 2018-January 2019, the jobless rate was also at 1.7 percent.
