The BLOM Lebanon PMI increased to 46.7 in April of 2019 from 46.3 in the previous month. Still, the reading pointed to a deterioration in private sector activity, although at a slower pace. Output and new orders decreased less as new exports orders fell at the slowest rate in nearly a year. In addition, employment fell slightly from March while backlogs of work fell for the forty-sixth straight month. On the price front, input costs increased faster, due to a rise in purchase prices. In Lebanon, the BLOM Lebanon Purchasing Managers’ Index measures the performance of private sector and is derived from a survey of 450 companies, including manufacturing, services, construction and retail. The PMI is a composite index, calculated as a weighted average of five individual sub-components: New Orders (30%), Output (25%), Employment (20%), Suppliers’ Delivery Times (15%) and Stocks of Purchases (10%).
