Foreign tourist arrivals in Indonesia slumped 28.85 percent year-on-year to the lowest in near four years of 885 thousand, in February 2020, affected by the COVID-19 global pandemic, with more countries implementing travel restrictions. The number of visitors in Bali, the center of Indonesian tourism industry, tumbled 17.9 percent to 358.2 thousand. Also, tourist arrivals in Jakarta sank 33.2 percent to 131 million, and those from Batam plunged 40.2 percent to 92.2 thousand. Tourists mostly fell from Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines and Thailand.

Foreign tourist arrivals in Indonesia expanded 5.85 percent year-on-year to 1.27 million in January 2020. The number of visitors in Bali, the center of Indonesian tourism industry, rose 16.6 percent to 526.8 thousand. Also, tourist arrivals in Batam rose by 16.62 percent to 156.7 million.
