Exports from Indonesia tumbled 28.95 percent from a year earlier to USD 10.53 billion in May 2020, worse than market consensus of a 17.98 percent fall and after an upwardly revised 7.24 percent decline in the prior month. It was the steepest decline in exports since 2009, due to a fall in global demand amid the coronavirus pandemic. Sales of oil and gas tumbled by 42.64 percent to USD 0.65 billion on the back of mining products (-47.04 percent), including crude oil (-88.70 percent), while non-oil and gas exports fell by 27.81 percent to USD 9.88 billion. Considering the first five months of 2020, sales dropped 5.96 percent from a year earlier.
