The number of people registered as out of work in mainland France increased by 8.4 thousand from a month earlier to 3.419 million in December 2018, from a near four-year low in the previous month. Unemployment among those aged 25 to 49 rose by 2.9 thousand to 2.039 million and that among young people went up by 9.0 thousand at 0.462 million. Meanwhile, the number of unemployed people aged 50 or more fell by 3.5 thousand to 0.919 million. Compared with the same month of the previous year, registered jobless dropped by 44.2 thousand.
