Finnish Producer Prices Fall for 4th Month
Producer prices in Finland decreased 0.6 percent year-on-year in September of 2019, after a 1.0 percent drop in the previous month. This was the fourth straight monthly decline in producer prices, but the smallest fall, as producer prices for export products fell softer (-1.3 percent vs -1.9 percent in August) while manufactured products sold on the domestic market was unchanged (vs -0.2 percent). Export prices were mainly dragged by lower prices of oil products, pulp and iron, steel and ferro-alloys. On a monthly basis, producer prices rose 0.5 percent, following a 0.2 percent decline in August.

This was the first decrease in producer prices since October 2016, as producer prices for export products fell faster (-1.6 percent vs -0.2 percent in May) while manufactured products sold on the domestic market prices dropped (-0.3 percent vs 1.8 percent). Export prices were mainly dragged by lower prices of oil products and basic metals. Import prices was especially caused by lower prices of oil products, waste and basic metals. On a monthly basis, producer prices dropped 1.1 percent, after a 0.1 percent gain in May.

Producer prices in Finland increased 0.9 percent year-on-year in May of 2019, easing from a 2.0 percent rise in the previous month. It was the lowest producer inflation since November 2016, as export products fell (-0.2 percent vs 1.2 percent in April) while manufactured products sold on the domestic market prices rose softer (1.8 percent vs 2.7 percent). Export prices were mainly boosted by higher prices of electricity, pulp, paper, paperboard & cardboard; while prices of iron & steel fell. Import prices was especially caused by higher prices of oil products and electricity whereas prices of waste declined. On a monthly basis, producer prices edged up 0.1 percent, after a flat reading in March.


Finland Producer Prices Change
In Finland, producer price index for manufactured products measures development in the producer prices of goods manufactured in the country. The index includes both goods sold at home and exported goods. The price for domestic goods is the factory price exclusive of taxes and the price for export goods is the f.o.b. price. The index covers commodities of industry categories B to E.
