The unemployment rate in Egypt decreased to 7.8 percent in the third quarter of 2019 compared to 10 percent in the same period a year earlier and 7.5 percent in the previous quarter. The number of unemployed persons went down by 708 thousand to 2.21 million while employed remained barely unchanged at 26.1 million. The jobless rate declined in urban areas (10.6 percent vs 12.5 percent in Q3 2018) and in rural areas (5.6 percent vs 8.1 percent). Meantime, unemployment among people with average and above average qualifications stood at 43.8 percent, with unemployment among university graduates and people with higher qualifications reaching 44.8 percent. Egypt Jobless Rate Lowest since at Least 2003
The unemployment rate in Egypt fell to 7.5 percent in the second quarter of 2019 compared to 9.9 percent in the same period a year earlier and 8.1 percent in the previous quarter. This is the lowest jobless rate since comparable series began in 2003, as the number of unemployed persons declined sharply by 781 thousand to 2.09 million while employed rose by 1,909 thousand to 28.1 million.

The unemployment rate in Egypt fell to 8.1 percent in the first quarter of 2019 compared to 10.6 percent in the same period a year ago. This is the lowest jobless rate since the second quarter of 1999, as the number of unemployed persons decreased sharply by 827 thousand to 2.267 million as many jobs were created in mega national development projects. By genders, the jobless rate was much lower for men (5.7% vs 7.3% in Q1 2018) than for women (18.9% vs 22%).
