Colombia’s retail sales surged by 34.8 percent year-on-year in May of 2022, following an upwardly revised 23.4 percent increase in the previous month and well above market expectations of a 27 percent jump. It marked the 16th consecutive month of growth in retail activity and at the fastest pace since April of 2021. Sharp sales growth took place for fuel (53.2 percent), automobiles (64.3 percent), textiles and garments (63.9 percent), and computers and electronics (40.9 percent).

Colombia Retail Sales Growth Tops Forecasts
Colombia’s retail sales surged by 23.3 percent year-on-year in April of 2022, following a downwardly revised 11 percent increase in the previous month and well above market forecasts of a 15.4 percent rise. It marks the 15th consecutive month of growth in retail activity and at the fastest pace since last August. The most important contributions came from higher sales of fuels (+25.4 percent), other vehicles and motorcycles (+40.9 percent) and clothing & textiles (+104.8 percent).
