Chile Unemployment Rate at 5-Month Low
Gold prices went up as much 0.5% to $1,491.1 an ounce around 01:00 PM NY time on Wednesday, after hitting a one-week low of $ 1,483.5 an ounce in the previous session. The precious metal continues to benefit from investor’s expectations that the Federal Reserve will lower rates by a quarter of a percentage point for a third time this year. Meantime, Silver prices increased 0.4% to $17.89 an ounce.

Chile’s unemployment rate fell to 7.2 percent in the three months to August 2019 from 7.3 percent in the same period of the previous year and matching market forecasts. The number of unemployed dropped by 0.8 percent to 655 thousand while the number of employed rose by 1.5 percent to 8,461 thousand. The labor force participation rate was at 59.2 percent and the employment rate at 54.9 percent.

The jobless rate in Chile rose to 7.1 percent in the three months to May 2019 from 7.0 percent in the same period of the previous year. The number of unemployed increased by 2.9 percent to 648 thousand while the number of employed grew at a softer 1.4 percent to 8.508 million. Across sectors, employment rose mostly in public administration (8.0 percent), education (4.1 percent) and health (6.0 percent).
