Chile Jobless Rate Highest since 2010
Chile’s unemployment rate rose to 8.2 percent in the three months to March 2020 from 7.2 percent in the same month of the previous year, but below market expectations of 8.5 percent. It was the highest jobless rate since the three months to August 2010, as the number of unemployed increased 15.8 percent to 808 thousand and the number of employed advanced by 0.7 percent to 8,942 thousand. Meantime, the labor force participation rate was at 62.5 percent and the employment rate at 57.3 percent.

Chile Jobless Rate Rises to Over 1-1/2-Year High
Chile’s unemployment rate increased to 7.8 percent in the three months to February 2020 from 7.0 percent in the corresponding period of the previous year and above market expectations of 7.2 percent. It was the highest jobless rate since the three months to July 2018, as the number of unemployed jumped by 13.9 percent to 768 thousand and the number of employed went up by 1.7 percent to 9,831 thousand. Meantime, the labor force participation rate was at 63.1 percent and the employment rate at 58.2 percent.

Chile’s unemployment rate increased to 7.4 percent in the three months to January 2020 from 7.1 percent in the corresponding period of the previous year and above market expectations of 7.2 percent. The number of unemployed went up by 6.8 percent to 732 thousand and the number of employed rose by 2.1 percent to 9,118 thousand. Meantime, the labor force participation rate was at 63.4 percent and the employment rate at 58.7 percent.

Chile Jobless Rate Rises to 7%
Chile’s unemployment rate rose to 7 percent in the three months to December 2019 from 6.7 percent in the same period of the previous year, as the number of unemployed increased by 5 percent to 641 thousand and the number of employed went up by 1 percent to 8,548 thousand. The labor force participation rate was at 59.3 percent and the employment rate at 55.2 percent. Considering 2019 as a whole, the jobless rate was at 7 percent, the same as in 2018.
