Benin Balance of Trade
Benin’s systemic trade deficit is the result of the country’s dependence on imports for energy needs and high value-added goods. Moreover, Benin’s exports of agricultural products such as cotton, cocoa and maze are highly vulnerable to the weather and price fluctuations. Main trading partner is China (20 percent of exports and 15 percent of imports). Others include: Thailand, Togo and India.
