Belgium Posts Smallest Trade Surplus in 5 Months
Belgium's trade surplus decreased to EUR 991.3 million in October 2019 from EUR 1,153.3 million in the same month of the previous year. This was the smallest trade surplus since May. Exports slipped 6.4 percent to EUR 33,307 million, as the reduction of sales to the EU (-10.3 percent) more than offset the increase in shipments to non-EU countries (4.6 percent). Meantime, imports went down at a softer 6.1 percent to EUR 32,316 million, amid lower purchases from both the EU (-7.2 percent) and non-EU countries (-4.2 percent).

Belgium Trade Surplus Narrows in September
Belgium's trade surplus shrank to EUR 1,293 million in September 2019 from EUR 1,487.4 million in the same month of the previous year. Exports fell 5.4 percent to EUR 31,175.8 million, pushed down by lower sales to EU countries (-8.1 percent to EUR 22,059.4 million) while those to non-EU countries rose 2 percent to EUR 9,116.4 million. Meantime, imports decreased at a softer 5 percent to EUR 29,882.8 million, as acquisitions from non-EU countries (4.7 percent to EUR 11,497.4 million) were not enough to offset the decline in the ones from EU countries (-10.2 percent to EUR 18,385.4 million).
