Pakistan Trade Deficit Increases in November


In November of 2013, Pakistan trade deficit rose to PKR 198.6 billion, from PKR 150.5 billion in October and PKR 164.3 billion a year earlier, as purchases of petroleum and medical products boosted imports.

Exports during November of 2013 amounted to PKR 193.9 billion, as against PKR 197.9 billion in October and PKR 181.9 billion during November last year (a monthly decrease of 2.04 percent but an annual increase of 6.58 percent). Sales of jewelry rose the most on the year (509.8 percent), followed by madeup articles (42.82 percent) and bedwear (29.22 percent). Shipments of cotton yard dropped by 24.56 percent yoy.

Imports amounted to PKR 392.5 billion in November as against PKR 348.4 billion in October and PKR 346.3 billion during November of 2012 (a rise of 12.64 percent over October and 13.37 percent over November). Purchases of medicinal products showed the highest annual increase (77.3 percent), followed by petroleum (28.9 percent) and plastic materials (23.75 percent).
