Turkish Jobless Rate Highest in 6 Months

Turkish unemployment rate was recorded at 10.3 percent in September of 2015, up from 10.1 percent in the previous month but down from 10.5 percent a year earlier. The figure is the highest since March.

The number of unemployed went up by 39 thousand to 3,103 million from 3,064 million in September 2014. In the same period, non-agricultural unemployment rate decreased by 0.3 percentage points to 12.4 percent while youth unemployment rate fell by 0.6 percentage points to 18.5 percent.

There were 27,156 million employed persons, up 987 thousand from 26.169 million persons in the previous year, bringing the employment rate to 46.8 percent. Of those who were employed, 21.5 percent was employed in agriculture (unchanged from September 2014), 19.6 percent was employed in industry (-0.7 percentage points compared to the same period a year earlier), 7.5 percent was employed in construction (unchanged from September 2014) and 51.4 percent was employed in services (+0.7 p.p. compared to September 2014).

The labor force participation rate increased to 52.1 percent from 51.2 percent than same period last year. The activity rate for males increased by 0.8 percentage points to 72.5 percent, while for females it grew by 1.2 percentahe points to 32.3 percent.
