The number of unemployed persons increased to 3.064 million in September from 2.944 million in August. Non-farm unemployment was 12.7 percent (12.3 percent in the previous month).
There were 26.169 million employed persons, down 0.54 percent from August, bringing the employment rate to 45.8 percent. Of those who were employed, 21.5 percent worked in agriculture; 20.3 percent in industry; 7.5 percent was employed in construction and 50.7 percent in services.
The labor force participation rate decreased slightly by 0.1 percent to 51.1 percent in September. Meanwhile, 27.942 million people were out of the labor force.
