Greek Unemployment Rate Continues to Fall


Greek seasonally adjusted jobless rate decreased marginally to 25.7 percent in September of 2014 from a revised 26 percent in the previous month, as the number of employed increased.

The number of employed people increased by 1.6 percent (+ 55085 persons) to 3589280 persons in September compared to August. Comparing with the same month of the previous year, employment rose 2.3 percent (+ 79247 persons).

The number of unemployed persons fell by 0.1 percent (- 940 persons) to 1241114 persons in September over August. Comparing with September of 2013, unemployed decreased by 9 percent (- 123115 persons).

The number of Inactive persons, that neither worked neither looked for a job, decreased by 1.7 percent (-58519 persons) compared with the previous month and fell 0.2 percent (- 6501 persons) compared with September 2013.

Youth unemployment rate was recorded at 49.8 percent in September of 2014, down from 57.3 percent in the same month of the previous period. It is the highest rate among age groups.
