The seasonally adjusted number of persons unemployed was 127,600 in November, down from 130,100 when compared to the October figure and a decrease of 23,700 when compared to November 2017.
The unemployment rate for males was recorded at 5.3 percent, down from 5.4 percent in October and compared to 6.8 percent a year earlier; while for females it decreased to 5.4 percent from 5.5 percent in the previous month and 6.0 percent in November 2017. The number of males unemployed decreased by 1,300 from the previous month to 68,600 and the number of females declined by 1,300 to 59,000.
The youth unemployment rate fell to 12.3 percent in November from 12.9 percent in the prior month. It was the lowest jobless rate since May 2008.
Unemployment has fallen sharply since the jobless rate hit a high of 16 percent in early 2012.
