Euro Area Inflation Rate Steady at 0.1%


Consumer prices in the Eurozone are expected to edge up 0.1 percent year-on-year in November of 2015, the same as in October but below market expectations of a 0.2 percent gain. The inflation rate has been below the ECB’s 2 percent target since January of 2013.

Looking at the main components of euro area inflation, food, alcohol & tobacco is expected to have the highest annual rate in November (1.5 percent, compared with 1.6 percent in October), followed by services (1.1 percent, compared with 1.3 percent in October) and non-energy industrial goods (0.5 percent, compared with 0.6 percent in October). 

Meanwhile, energy is expected to fall at a slower 7.3 percent, compared to an 8.5 percent fall in October. 

Core inflation rate which excludes prices of energy, food, alcohol and tobacco is expected to slow to 0.9 percent from 1.1 percent in October.

Excluding energy, consumer prices rose 1 percent, lower than 1.2 percent in the previous month.
