Greece Unemployment Rate Remained Unchanged in August


In August, Greek jobless rate was 27.3 percent compared to 25.5 percent in August 2012 and 27.3 percent in July 2013. Youth unemployment grew to 60.6 percent.

The number of unemployed amounted to 1,365 thousand persons, increased by 95,326 persons (a 7.5 percent of increase) compared with August 2012 and by 6,557 persons compared with July 2013 (a 0.5 rate of increase). 

The number of employed amounted to 3,631 thousand persons, decreased by 88,242 persons compared with August 2012 (a 2.4 percent decrease) and increased by 9,777 persons compared with July 2013 (a 0.3 rate of increase).  

Inactive persons –that is, persons that neither worked neither looked for a job– decreased by 620 persons (a 0.02 rate of decrease) compared with August 2012 and by 9,068 persons compared with July 2013 (a 0.3 percent of decrease).
