Greece Unemployment Rate Down to 25.9%


Greek jobless rate fell to 25.9 percent in August of 2014 from a revised 26.1 percent in July. Yet, employment fell marginally while the labour force shrank.

The number of employed persons decreased by 15,698 in August compared with July (-0.4 percent), but rose 0.9 percent year-on-year. 

The number of unemployed persons fell by 1.6 percent in August over July and by 8.3 percent over a year earlier. However, the number of inactive persons increased by 31,709 persons compared with July 2014 (+1.0 percent) and by 29,196 persons (+0.9 percent) year-on-year. 

Youth unemployment rate was recorded at 49.3 percent in August of 2014 down from 58.6 percent in the same month of the previous year.
