Australia's Jobless Rate at 17-Month Low

Australia's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate surprisingly decreased to 5.9 percent in October of 2015 from 6.2 percent a month earlier and the lowest figure since May 2014. The economy added 58,600 jobs, the largest gain since March 2012, and the number of unemployed declined by 33,400.

The seasonally adjusted labour force participation rate increased to 65.0 percent from 64.9 percent in September.

Employment increased to 11,838,200: full-time employment rose 40,000 to 8,171,600 and part-time employment was up by 18,600 to 3,666,600.

Unemployment decreased by 33,400 to 739,500. The number of unemployed persons looking for full-time work decreased 30,300 to 526,300 and the number of unemployed persons only looking for part-time work decreased by 3,100 to 213,200.

Seasonally adjusted aggregate monthly hours worked in all jobs increased 19.1 million hours (+1.2 percent) to 1,660.4 million hours.
