Japanese shipments grew by 14.7 percent to 5972 billion yen, down from 15.6 percent in August. Exports to China were up 11.4 percent after 13.5 percent in August. Shipments to the United States slowed to 18.8 percent from the previous month's 20.2 percent rise and sales to the European Union also slowed to 11.1 percent following an increase of 21.3 percent a month earlier.
Japanese imports were up by 16.5 percent yoy to 6904 billion yen as a weaker yen increased fuel costs further. Purchases from Europe rose 25.3 percent, from China were up 21.7 percent and from the United States grew by 13.9 percent.
