Greece Unemployment Rate Decreases to 26.4%


Greek seasonally adjusted jobless rate fell for the third consecutive month to 26.4 percent in July of 2014 from a revised 26.7 percent in June. It is the lowest rate since December of 2012.

The number of employed amounted to 3,581,832 persons, increasing by 72,657 persons compared with July of 2013 (+ 2.1 percent) and by 34,218 persons compared with June 2014 (+1.0 percent)

The number of unemployed amounted to 1,281,686, 5.1 percent lower than a year earlier, and 0.9 percent less than in the previous month.  

Inactive persons –that is, persons that neither worked neither looked for a job– decreased by 52,105 to 3,268,994 (a 1.6 percent rate of decrease) compared with July 2013 and by 26,760 persons compared with June 2014 (a 0.8 percent rate of decrease).
