Year-on-year, prices increased less for housing & utilities (4.3 percent vs 6.3 percent in August); clothing & footwear (2.6 percent vs 2.9 percent); communication (0.6 percent vs 0.7 percent); restaurants & hotels (4.2 percent vs 4.6 percent); alcoholic beverages & tobacco (1.3 percent vs 2.1 percent) and miscellaneous goods & services (2.4 percent vs 2.5 percent).
In contrast, inflation quickened for food & non-alcoholic beverages; transport (3.2 percent vs 2.7 percent); health (1.9 percent vs 1.4 percent) and recreation & culture (2.0 percent vs 1.8 percent).
On a monthly basis, consumer prices went down 0.1 percent, following a 0.5 percent decrease in the previous month, mainly attributable to prices of food items, such as sardines (-2.5 percent); fruits (-1.1 percent); vegetables (-1.2 percent); peas (-4.0 percent); cocoyam (-3.7 percent) and round potatoes (-4.2 percent).
Annual core inflation, which excludes food and energy, edged down to 2.7 percent in September, its lowest level since last November, from 2.9 percent in August.
