On a seasonally adjusted basis the Live Register total recorded a monthly decrease of 1,800 in September, reducing the seasonally adjusted total to 414,300. In unadjusted terms there were 408,670 people signing on the Live Register, this represents an annual decrease of 20,665 (-4.8 percent).
The number of male claimants decreased by 19,743 (-7.2 percent) to 254,046 over the year while female claimants showed little change, only decreasing by 922 (-0.6 percent) to 154,624. This compares with a decrease of 8,199 to 273,789 for males and an increase of 93 to 155,546 for females in the year to September 2012.
In the year to September 2013 the number of persons aged 25 and over on the Live Register decreased by 13,150 (-3.7 percent), and the number of persons aged under 25 decreased by 7,515 (-10.2 percent). Annual decreases in persons aged under 25 have occurred in all months since July 2010.
