Turkey Jobless Rate Climbs to 13% in June
Turkey's unemployment rate rose to 13.0 percent in June 2019 from 10.2 percent in the same period of the previous year
The number of unemployed increased 938 thousand from a year earlier to 4.25 million in June, while employment declined 802 thousand to 28.51 million. The non-farm sector lost 569 thousand jobs, mostly in services and manufacturing; and the farm sector shed 232 thousand jobs. Meanwhile, the number of people detached from the labour force increased 663 thousand to 28.66 million. The labour force participation rate edged down to 53.3 percent from 53.8 percent a year earlier and the employment rate decreased to 46.4 percent from 48.4 percent.
The non-agricultural jobless rate jumped to 15.3 percent in June from 12.1 percent in the previous year.
Youth unemployment rate, measuring job-seekers between 15 and 24 years old, also rose to 24.8 percent from 19.4 percent in the same month a year ago.
By genders, the jobless rate was higher for both men (11.7 percent from 8.7 percent a year ago) and women (15.6 percent vs 13.2 percent).
On a seasonally adjusted basis, the unemployment rate went down to 13.9 percent in June from 14.0 percent in May, which was the highest level since at least January 2005.
