Greece Unemployment Rate Falls Slightly


Greek seasonally adjusted jobless rate decreased marginally to 27 percent in June, following a revised 27.1 percent in May. Greek unemployment remains the highest in the European Union.

The number of employed persons amounted to 3,527,112 in June of 2014. The number of unemployed reached 1,303,884 while the number of inactive was recorded at 3,305,922. 

In June, employment fell 0.1 percent over a year earlier but rose 0.3 percent over May. Meanwhile, unemployment fell by 3.2 percent year-on-year and by 0.3 percent compared with the previous month. 

ther number of inactive persons –that is, persons that neither worked neither looked for a job– decreased by 2,625 persons (a 0.1 percent rate of decrease) compared with June 2013 and by 10,342 persons compared with May 2014 (a 0.3 percent rate of decrease). 

Unemployment among people aged 15 to 24 years old was recorded at 51.5 percent.
