Ghana Inflation Rate Eases in August


Annual inflation in Ghana slowed to 17.3 percent in August of 2015, down from 17.9 percent reported in July , as cost of utilities rose less than in the previous month.

Year-on-year, price of housing and utilities went up 23.5 percent (+27.1% in July), food increased 7.7 percent (+7.6% in July), transport surged 25.3 percent (+25.7% in July). Additional upward pressure came from clothing and footwear (+25.1 percent); miscellaneous goods and services (+20.7 percent); restaurants, cafes and hotels (+20.6 percent).

On a monthly basis, consumer prices decreased by 0.7 percent, first drop since September of 2014, following a 2.3 percent increase in July. Food prices went down by 1.2 percent and cost of housing and utilities declined by 2.6 percent.
