Compared to the previous month, the number of unemployed persons edged down 0.5 percent to 1.97 million in July of 2015 from 1.98 million in June. Meanwhile, employment went up 0.1 percent to 39.87 million people.
Compared with July of 2014, unemployment fell 5.7 percent while employment edged up 0.2 percent.
Youth unemployment rate fell to 7 percent, down from 7.1 percent in June and 7.7 percent a year earlier.
Separate data from the Labour Office showed the number of unemployed persons fell by 7000 to 2.79 million in August. The unemployment rate remained steady at a record low of 6.4 percent.
